Welcome to one of the most popular mild aromatic pipe tobaccos available in the United Kingdom – the classic American CV 25g from the historic Kendal blenders Gawith Hoggarth. Also widely known as Gawith Hoggarth American CV or Cherry Vanilla pipe tobacco, this 25g loose pack has earned a strong following among British pipe smokers who enjoy a sweet, approachable, and room-friendly smoke.
If you are searching for a high-quality American CV pipe tobacco that delivers consistent flavour, easy packing, and a pleasant aroma, this is the blend that regularly appears among the top-selling aromatic options on major UK tobacco sites. The American CV 25g offers the perfect balance of traditional English blending skill and classic American-style aromatic character.
Gawith Hoggarth has been producing fine tobaccos in Kendal since the late 19th century, with family roots in the tobacco trade stretching back to 1792. The company is renowned for its careful selection of leaf and traditional manufacturing methods. The American CV blend (sometimes labelled American C&V or American Cherry & Vanilla) was created as a lighter, more accessible aromatic designed to appeal to both newer pipe smokers and experienced enthusiasts who prefer a mild, flavourful everyday smoke.
Unlike heavily cased modern aromatics that can taste artificial, Gawith Hoggarth American CV uses a carefully balanced base of quality tobaccos that remain noticeable beneath the flavouring. This is one of the reasons it continues to rank highly with UK customers looking for genuine Cherry Vanilla pipe tobacco.
The American CV 25g is composed of:
These three components form the classic foundation of many American-style aromatics. The leaf is then lightly cased and top-dressed with ripe cherry and smooth vanilla extracts. The result is a coarse-cut mixture that looks attractive in the pouch – rich black ribbons mixed with chestnut and golden-brown strands.
When you open a fresh pack of American CV 25g, the first impression is a sweet, fruity aroma. Many smokers describe it as reminiscent of an ice-cream cone with cherry sauce and a light sprinkling of nuts. The vanilla provides a creamy sweetness while the cherry adds a bright, fresh top note. Importantly, the natural tobacco character is never completely hidden, which is a hallmark of better Gawith Hoggarth aromatics.
Strength: Mild Flavouring: Mild to Medium Taste: Mild to Medium Room Note: Pleasant
The American CV pipe tobacco is deliberately mild in nicotine strength, making it suitable for longer smoking sessions or for those who prefer a lighter experience. The flavour develops steadily throughout the bowl. At the start you notice the sweet cherry and vanilla most clearly. As the bowl progresses, the underlying Burley and Cavendish notes become more apparent, adding a gentle nutty and slightly toasted character that prevents the smoke from becoming one-dimensional.
Because it is a coarse cut, the American CV 25g packs easily into the pipe. It lights without difficulty and tends to burn evenly and cool when smoked at a relaxed pace. Many users report little to no tongue bite when the tobacco is not rushed. The ash is fine and grey, and the smoke remains consistent from first light to the final puffs.
The room note is one of the strongest selling points of this blend. Unlike some heavier aromatics that can dominate a room, American CV produces a pleasant, lightly sweet aroma that most non-smokers find agreeable. This makes it a popular choice for those who smoke at home or in shared spaces.
This mild aromatic pipe tobacco is particularly well suited to:
It sits comfortably alongside other popular Gawith Hoggarth American-style blends such as the Black Cherry and Coffee & Caramel versions, yet the combination of cherry and vanilla remains one of the most frequently requested flavour profiles in the UK.
All our American CV 25g packs are carefully weighed and packed to order. Smaller quantities arrive in a clearly labelled non-resealable pouch. Larger orders are supplied in resealable airtight bags to help maintain freshness. This approach ensures you receive tobacco that is in excellent condition, just as the leading specialist UK tobacconists do with their own loose Gawith Hoggarth stock.
These simple steps help the Cherry Vanilla pipe tobacco deliver its full character and keep the smoke cool and enjoyable.
When compared with other aromatic options on the UK market, the Gawith Hoggarth American CV stands out for its balance. It is not overly sweet, the flavouring is well integrated, and the base tobaccos remain present. Many UK retailers list it among their better-selling mild aromatics precisely because it satisfies both flavour seekers and those who still want to taste the tobacco itself.
The 25g size is ideal for trying the blend or for smokers who prefer smaller, fresher quantities rather than large tins that may dry out over time. Combined with discreet packaging and reliable UK delivery, it offers a convenient way to enjoy a classic American CV pipe tobacco.
American CV 25g by Gawith Hoggarth remains a firm favourite for good reason. It delivers a mild, sweet, and aromatic smoking experience built on quality leaf and traditional blending skill from Kendal. Whether you are new to pipe smoking or simply looking for a reliable Cherry Vanilla pipe tobacco, this 25g loose pack is a strong choice.
