Welcome to one of the most popular short-format cigars from the highly respected AJ Fernandez factory in Estelí, Nicaragua. The New World Oscuro 5 Pack delivers the exact same all-Nicaraguan blend that made the original New World Oscuro a modern classic, now in a convenient Petit Corona size that is perfect for UK smokers who want full flavour without a long time commitment.
This New World Oscuro 5 Pack contains five expertly handmade Petit Corona cigars measuring 4 inches by 36 ring gauge. Each cigar offers a satisfying 25–40 minute smoking experience packed with the rich, complex taste that AJ Fernandez is famous for. Whether you are new to the New World line or already a fan of the larger vitolas, this 5-pack is an outstanding way to enjoy the blend in a more accessible format.
The New World Oscuro holds a special place in the AJ Fernandez portfolio. It was the very first collaboration between Abdel J. Fernandez and his father, Ismael Fernandez. After spending 17 years working with the Plasencia family, Ismael came out of retirement to create this blend with his son. The name “New World” is a deliberate tribute to the year 1492, when Christopher Columbus and European explorers first encountered tobacco in the Americas and introduced it to the rest of the world.
Released in 2014, the original New World (later known as the Oscuro) quickly gained critical acclaim. It earned high scores from major publications, including a 91 from Cigar Aficionado, a 92 from Cigar Snob, and the prestigious Cigar of the Year award from Cigar Journal with a 94 rating. The line has since expanded, but the original Oscuro blend remains the foundation and one of the best-value Nicaraguan puros available today.
Every cigar in the New World Oscuro 5 Pack is a true Nicaraguan puro. The tobaccos come exclusively from the four most important growing regions in the country, all carefully selected and aged by the Fernandez family.
The result is a medium-to-full-bodied smoke that never feels harsh. The construction is excellent — typical of the AJ Fernandez factory — with a firm pack, even burn, and a consistent draw that produces plentiful smoke.
Despite its small size, the New World Oscuro Petit Corona punches well above its weight. Reviewers and smokers consistently note that the flavour intensity is remarkable for a 4 × 36 cigar.
First third The opening is bold and inviting. Expect immediate notes of dark chocolate, freshly ground coffee, and a touch of black pepper on the retrohale. The Nicaraguan Oscuro wrapper announces itself clearly with an earthy, slightly sweet character.
Second third The profile deepens. Earth and cedar move forward, supported by continuing chocolate and a subtle nuttiness. The spice remains present but becomes more integrated. Smoke production stays generous and the ash holds well.
Final third The cigar finishes strong and satisfying. Pepper and coffee intensify slightly, while the earthy core remains balanced. There is no bitterness or harshness — just a rich, lingering finish that leaves you wanting another.
Many UK smokers describe this as one of the best short smokes available, comparing the intensity favourably to larger formats while appreciating the convenience of the Petit Corona size.
Larger New World Oscuro vitolas such as the Navegante Robusto or Gobernador Toro are excellent for longer sessions. However, the Petit Corona in this New World Oscuro 5 Pack is ideal for:
The concentrated flavour means you lose very little complexity compared with the bigger sizes. In fact, many aficionados keep a few of these on hand precisely because they deliver the full New World experience in a shorter time. New World Oscuro 5 Pack
